Whale Management and Impact Mitigation Plan

Objective

Ensuring a proactive approach in safeguarding whales from entanglement through the implementation of responsive programs and plans. The objective is to establish a reliable and secure entanglement response capability within the port vicinity. The ultimate aim is to prevent entanglements from occurring altogether in the long run.

Ensuring the well-being of both humans and animals while actively contributing to the conservation of whale populations.

Research on Seaweed Aquaculture Development

Objective

Conducting a study on enhancing the yield of seaweed aquaculture farming in the Duqm region.

In coordination with DEME (OMAR), PODC is helping to create research output.

    Since 1900, there has been a substantial rise in global carbon emissions resulting from the burning of fossil fuels. From 1970 to 2011, CO2 emissions have surged by approximately 90%, primarily driven by fossil fuel combustion and industrial activities, which account for around 78% of the overall increase in greenhouse gas emissions. The second-largest contributors to these emissions have been agriculture, deforestation, and land-use changes.

    Seaweed species: Investigate which seaweed species are best suited for cultivation in the Duqm region. Different species have varying requirements for temperature, salinity, light, and nutrient levels. Some common species used in aquaculture include kelp, nori, wakame, and spirulina.

    Research and Development: Invest in research to identify and cultivate seaweed species that are well-suited for the environmental conditions in Duqm.
